Mentre è in corso la mostra del Comitato per la Difesa di Venezia (24 - 31 marzo 2000) che documenta tra l'altro il furto e la sostituzione di alcune colonnine, qualcosa, presumibilmente un pesante mezzo meccanico, lesiona gravemente un ampio tratto della ringhiera di fondamenta dei Tolentini, spezzando numerose colonnine, vecchie e nuove e rendendo pericolante l'intero parapetto. Questo consentirà, pochi mesi più tardi, la completa rimozione di tutta la ringhiera e quindi l'occultamento delle prove del furto precedente.	During the opening period (24^th - 31^st of March 2000) of the exposition organised by the Venice Defence Committee, which highlighted the theft and substitution of several columns, something, most likely a heavy boat, badly damaged hundreds of metres of the rail along fondamenta dei Tolentini. Many columns, old and new, were split, and the whole rail was made dangerous and unsafe. This condition was used as the excuse to, a few months later - to allow the complete removal of the rail, thus also removing and hiding the material proof of the previous theft.

26 marzo 2000. La chiatta che vediamo ben potrebbe essere lo strumento con cui sono state spezzate le colonnine.

The heavy steel boat we can see is, presumably, that which caused the damage.

La frattura che era stata aggiustata con lo stucco si è riaperta. Dal colore vivo della pietra si nota una nuova scheggiatura sulla testa, provocata dal gioco di leva della ringhiera di ferro quando la colonnina è stata violentemente spinta.

A fracture, "repaired" with the putty, which has subsequently re-opened. The bright colour of the stone allows us to see a brand new break on the head, caused by the effect of the leverage of the steel rail where the column has been violently thrust against.

Non si può certo pensare a un errore d'ormeggio della chiatta, perché i danni sono presenti per tutta la lunghezza della fondamenta.

How can a mistake in berthing the working boat be allowed to proceed to damage hundreds of metres of the fondamenta?

27 febbraio 2001. Ecco come è finita: tutte le colonnine sono state rimosse, sparite le prove del furto, un nuovo cantiere di incapaci e forse disonesti si pasce di denaro pubblico.

27^th February, 2001. Here how it ended up: all the small columns have been removed, the material proof of the theft has disappeared, and incompetence and dishonesty are again being fed with public money.
