Calcestruzzo a Venezia?	Mass concrete in Venice??
Pare che il leopardo oltre alle macchie abbia pure la rogna. Non contenti di portarsi via le belle pietre originali, i "restauratori" a volte non si preoccupano neppure di sostituirle con altre scadenti. Usano direttamente il calcestruzzo. In alcuni casi in via definitiva (la macchia sulle Zattere ai Gesuati che vediamo nella foto è in opera ormai da una decina d'anni), più spesso in via provvisoria, come (spero) quella tutt'attorno alla Fenice, quelle in fondamenta degli Ormesini e la lunga striscia sulle Zattere ai Saloni. In via provvisoria significa che il calcestruzzo dovrà essere demolito con l'uso di pesanti e rumorosissimi martelli pneumatici e poi smaltito, cioè trasportato e gettato via. Non si pensi che il calcestruzzo costi poco, tutt'altro! Se ne comprano tonnellate, così, a perdere e poi si affrontano ulteriori costi per demolirlo e gettarlo via. Il sospetto che dietro tale insensata operazione ci siano interessi illeciti mi sembra inevitabile.	It seems that the leopard, beyond the spots, has also scabs. In some cases we see this on a finished street (the spots on the Zattere at the Gesuiti that we see in the photo have been in place for ten years), more often on a temporary basis like, I hope, those all around the Fenice, those on the Fondamenta Ormesini, and the long strip on the Zattere at Saloni. The temporary work on a street means that the concrete must be demolished with the use of heavy and noisy pneumatic hammers and then disposed of, which requires being transported and then thrown away. Do not think that the concrete costs a little, not at all! It is bought by the tons, just to be thrown away a few mounths later, with the further costs to break it up and carry it away. This fact reinforce the suspect that behind such foolish operations there are illegal interests.

Zattere to the Gesuiti (see map) this patch seems finished, going back many years it was probably the first occasion in which it was thought of to substitute stones with concrete.

Tutt'attorno al teatro La Fenice (vedi sulla mappa), dopo l'incendio alcuni corsi di masegni sono stati sostituiti con calcestruzzo. Perché mai?

Una lunga e spessa striscia di betonata copre tutte le Zattere ai Saloni del Sale (vedi sulla mappa). Verrà in seguito demolita per ripavimentare con masegni. A parte il fatto che lambisce architetture cinquecentesche, perché questo spreco di denaro pubblico?

A long and thick strip of cement covers all the Zattere to the Saloni del Sale. (see map) It will be demolished for repavement with stones. Apart from the fact that it borders architecture from the 1500's, why this waste of public money?

Questa striscia in fondamenta della Misericordia (vedi Mappa) si snodava per centinaia di metri con uno spessore medio di dieci centimetri: circa 10 tonnellate di calcestruzzo ogni 10 metri lineari, calcolando per difetto; comperate e messe in opera per essere demolite con fatica un anno dopo. È buon uso del denaro pubblico questo? O non sarà piuttosto un buon affare per chi vende cemento?

This strip on the canalfront of Misericordia (see map) winds for several hundred meters with a medium thickness of ten centimeters: about 10 tons of concrete every 10 linear meters is used, calculating for defects: bought and poured only to be demolished with great effort a year later. Is it a good use of public money? Or instead is it a good business for those who sell concrete?

Demolire il calcestruzzo è affar serio. Ci vogliono manodopera e pesanti martelli demolitori. Questi ultimi, come del resto il cemento, sono estremamente inadatti alla specificità veneziana.

Demolishing the concrete is a serious business. Labor and heavy demolishing hammers are needed. This, like otherwise the cement, are extremely inappropriate for the specific needs of Venice.
